A Prayer About Atonement

When I think about what Jesus did for me

MY SAVIOR,

I thought about the Cross today and what you experienced as a human being, a man. You humbled yourself completely to become a cluster of miniscule cells inside Mary and then a tiny baby. Born during difficult times in occupied territory, you submitted to parents and experienced childhood and adolescence, with all those human limitations. You lived perfectly, resisting every temptation. Then, enduring opposition from family, the religious establishment, and others, and after teaching and healing, you were falsely accused, hated, battered, bruised, whipped until bloody, mocked, spit upon, abandoned, tortured, and hung by through-the-flesh nails on those beams. But your greatest pain came as you became the sin bearer on that execution pole—the perfect and holy Son of God, the one who knew no sin becoming sin. Yet that was your choice. And you did it for me and all those who trust in you. You took the Cross in my place. Now I stand forgiven, Spirit indwelled, a child of God. Thank you, Jesus, for your love and sacrifice. I bow in humility, worshiping you, my Savior.

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:9-10
