A Prayer About Assurance
A prayer about Assurance
When I am questioning my faith
MY LORD AND MY GOD,
I have often sung this verse of one of Fanny Crosby’s classic hymns: “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.” I sincerely mean every word, but at times my assurance doesn’t seem very “blessed” when I’m questioning my faith. An emotionally draining conflict can bring doubts. Tragic events can get me wondering about your love. Or I can simply become complacent and coast in the Christian life. That’s when I need to return to the truth of my relationship with you, facts found in that favorite verse: I’m an heir; I have been bought; I am a new person, born again; because of the Cross I am forgiven, clean! That is “my story,” “my song.” O God, continually remind me that my faith is based on the finished work of Christ, and that whenever I feel unnerved by swirling events or doubts that assault my mind, I can remember the truth. And I can praise my Savior, “all the day long!”
You must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. Colossians 1:23
