An Accepting Community To Reveal Yourself

An Accepting Community to Reveal Yourself

Another requirement for safe community is acceptance. Most won’t open up for fear of rejection. Won’t others turn their heads in disgust when you reveal your wounds? Won’t they ask you to find someplace else where people actually want to hear such uncomfortable details?

Sadly, some gatherings are like this. Certain support groups are really social clubs in disguise or groups that want to be educated on healing but don’t really want to wade through the messiness of shame and pain. Safe groups are out there, but test the waters before you let down your guard.

A safe group will have the look of hopeful brokenness. When you reveal your wounds, eyes will light up in recognition, and hearts will beam with compassion. You’ll be wrapped in acceptance. Your wrongs may not feel right, but finally you’ll be among those who understand and want to help bear your burden toward healing.

Find communities that have themselves found acceptance. Those are the ones that will pass on to you what they’ve so gratefully received.

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you. —Romans 15:7
