Are fertility drugs or surgery unbiblical?

Matthew 9:12When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.”

Colossians 4:14Luke, the beloved doctor, sends his greetings.

The Bible does not speak specifically about modern fertility drugs or surgeries. However, Scripture has a positive view of seeking medical help and does not equate it to a lack of faith. Jesus performed miraculous healings throughout his ministry, yet he acknowledged the value of doctors. Luke, the author of Acts and the Gospel of Luke, was himself a doctor.

John 9:1-3As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. “Rabbi,” his disciples asked him, “why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?” “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.”

Mark 10:51“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “My Rabbi,” the blind man said, “I want to see!”

God sometimes allows disabilities or medical conditions for specific purposes that we may not understand. However, that doesn’t mean we should deny someone an opportunity to recover their sight through eyeglasses or even surgery. If someone regains their sight through the work of doctors, we praise God for that! In the same way, fertility treatments that help someone’s body regain its proper function can play a role in God’s will. If God truly wants a womb to remain closed, fertility drugs and surgery won’t forcibly overcome his will.
