When and why might God be hostile toward us?
Psalm 5:5Therefore, the proud may not stand in your presence, for you hate all who do evil.
Psalm 103:8The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
Proverbs 11:23The godly can look forward to a reward, while the wicked can expect only judgment.
Nahum 1:2The Lord is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and rage. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and continues to rage against his enemies!
John 3:16“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:36“And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”

Romans 1:18God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.

Romans 3:25God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,

God loves all people but he also hates our sin. He is hostile toward the sin in us, and his righteousness requires him to punish it. But even while we were corrupted by sin, God still loved us enough to send Jesus to pay sin’s price. God is also hostile toward our enemy, Satan, who is constantly at work trying to get us to sin.
