Does the Bible say anything about illegal drugs?

1 Corinthians 6:12-13You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything. . . . [Our bodies] were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

1 Corinthians 10:31So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

The Bible doesn’t specifically mention the kind of drug addiction common today, but it does address the ever-present problem of putting things into our bodies that are harmful and that impair our ability to function. Taking drugs to get a “high” is an artificial feeling of happiness that is a cheap substitute for the true joy that comes when you are filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit controls your life, your joy is authentic and contagious.
