How can I avoid being co-dependent?

Galatians 1:10Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.

1 Thessalonians 2:4We speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.

Co-dependence often involves excessive people-pleasing. The Apostle Paul understood that he could not fulfill his ministry of sharing the Good News if he was trying to get the approval of people. If you find yourself constantly worried about pleasing others, this can become your focus instead of following Christ. Sometimes you can make the change yourself; other times, you might need the help of a counselor to work through your tendencies.
