Is God angry with me?
Exodus 34:6-7The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty.”
Psalm 7:10-11God is my shield, saving those whose hearts are true and right. God is an honest judge. He is angry with the wicked every day.
Psalm 18:26-27To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud.
God cannot tolerate sin because it is a rebellion against his rule and all that is good. Any kind of sin or evil angers him because it brings destruction and suffering to the people and world he loves. But he is always ready to forgive because he is kind and merciful. Those who humbly confess their sins and turn to him in faith receive God’s abundant love and mercy instead of anger.
Psalm 30:5His anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.
Psalm 145:8The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
The Bible promises that God is kind and merciful and always ready to receive us with love. The “always-angry God” is one of the worst caricatures ever attributed to God. God expresses his anger toward his children through gentle discipline; it is his love in action.
