Why is adultery dangerous? - Adultery - TouchPoints
Proverbs 5:18-23Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. She is a loving deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts satisfy you always. May you always be captivated by her love. Why be captivated, my son, by an immoral woman, or fondle the breasts of a promiscuous woman? For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes. An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness.
Proverbs 6:32The man who commits adultery is an utter fool, for he destroys himself.
Like most sin, adultery is a momentary act of pleasure that has dire consequences—a lifetime of regret and pain. The consequences of adultery are severe and can last from generation to generation. Even though we often act in the moment, God’s heart behind his commands is for our good in the long run.
Romans 6:13Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
Romans 12:1And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
1 Corinthians 6:15-16, 18-20Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never! And don’t you realize that if a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes one body with her? For the Scriptures say, “The two are united into one.” . . . .Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
Our bodies belong to God. When we give them over to such an intimate sin of betrayal, we are dishonoring him at a deep level.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin . . . commit adultery . . . none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.
This verse is weighty. It shows how important it is to avoid sin because of sin’s power to destroy our lives and our eternal destiny. No matter what temptation promises, the Kingdom of God is greater than any desire we could ever fulfill on this earth.
