Go To Him First

Go To Him First

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Christian musician Wayne Watson’s song “Friend of a Wounded Heart” says that when we’re looking for a friend, we can always turn to the Lord. “You’ll find Him there,” sings Watson, “arms open wide, love in His eyes.”

It’s wonderful to have a few good friends in whom we can confide, and who will pray for us and with us. But it’s easy to run to our friends when we should be running to our Best Friend.

Our friends may like us, but He loves us with an everlasting love. Our friends may listen, but His ears are always open to our cries. Our friends may try to advise us, but in Him dwell all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Our friends may encourage us, but He strengthens us with all power in our inner being. Our friends may give us a good word, but He gives us His precious promises. Our friends may brighten our lives, but He gives us abundant life.

There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus. So learn to go to Him first.

Though by sin oppressed, go to Him for rest; our God is able to deliver thee.
