A Surprise On Every Page

A Surprise On Every Page

You yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.

1 Thessalonians 5:2

When a well-known Florida mystery writer published his twelfth book, critics gave it two thumbs up. One reviewer said that readers would find “a surprise on every page.”

That may or may not be true of our favorite writers, but it’s certainly true of the Bible. Those who love God’s Word find surprises on every page.

That’s also true of the way God is writing the pages of history. Time is swiftly flying by, and pages are blowing off the calendar like leaves in the wind. The last days will be full of surprises, and the coming of Christ will be like a thief in the night. The apostle Peter says, “The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat” (2 Peter 3:10).

Those of us who know Christ are not in darkness that the day of His return should overtake us as a thief. We see the warning signs and read the prediction of Scripture. We’re watching, waiting, working, and ready!

In an hour to us unknown, as a thief in deepest night, Christ shall suddenly come down, with all His saints in light.
