When Your World Is Rocked
When Your World Is Rocked
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:8
My world was totally rocked when—at the age of thirty-three—I learned that my brother George and I had been adopted. My mother and father had kept it a secret to protect us because they loved us. But still, it rocked our worlds.
I remember thinking, What other “facts” about me aren’t true? Can I ever trust anyone again?
Had I kept on that train of thought, I would have derailed completely. But I had spent many years hiding God’s Word in my heart. So, in that moment, those truths offered immediate comfort and a light for this new path. Because I knew the Word, I stood strong on God’s truth, His promises, and His character.
After a few seconds of being stunned, I almost surprised myself with the words I spoke: “Well, before I was formed in my mother’s womb—whosever womb that was—God knew me. He knitted together my innermost parts. I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” It was the Word of God (Psalm 139:14), not words of hurt or shock.
When your world is turned upside down, let God’s Word rise up out of your heart and come out your mouth. Speak the truth and declare your trust in Him.
Lord, in this ever-changing world, I praise You for being the same yesterday and today and forever. Thank You for the security and strength and peace that is in You.
