The Promise Of Possibility

We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.

Numbers 13:30

What are you going to take possession of? Perhaps it’s greater freedom from the past. Perhaps it’s a new calling, a new adventure. Whatever it is, I invite you to imagine this “possession” as if you’ve already achieved it. That’s what two of Israel’s leaders, Joshua and Caleb, did in the desert.

Instead of looking only at fortified cities like Jericho and its intimidating walls, and strong people like the giants of the land, Joshua and Caleb kept their eyes on God, who was bigger and stronger. Rather than being distracted by all that looked impossible, they saw all that was possible. They fixated on God’s promise: a land of plenty for His people. Joshua and Caleb could see it, feel it, and taste it. That’s why they told Moses, “We can certainly do it.”

Joshua and Caleb knew that the God who had performed miracles for the children of Israel would absolutely take them into the promised land. They were confident that God—who was the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow—was more than sufficient (Hebrews 13:8). Put your faith in God’s promises today. Go in and possess your land, confident that God will deliver it all into your hands.

Lord, thank You for Your promises. I place my confidence in You, believing I possess everything You’ve shown me.
