The Coat And The Shirt
The Coat And The Shirt
“If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.”
Matthew 5:40
Your life becomes bigger and richer when you live bigger—when you live more generously, more joyfully, more graciously, more selflessly. Life becomes bigger and richer when, as Jesus put it, we give away both our coat and our shirt. Our God provides more than enough, so we don’t have to live small and clutch at what we have.
After all, God has not called us to live a life that asks, “How little?” but “How much? How far? How big? How wide?” Our God is able to do far greater than anything we can ask or imagine. So let’s not think in minimums. Let’s live big lives of faith as sons and daughters of our limitless God.
An ordinary life is lived in the first mile, but an extraordinary life happens only when you are willing to go the second mile. So don’t just do what is asked. Instead, choose to go above and beyond the minimum requirements so that you can have maximum impact for God’s kingdom and His glory. Always be willing to give your shirt and your coat!
Lord, I want to live in anticipation of what You will do through me and how You will be glorified! Please show me new opportunities to give away my coat or go that extra mile.
