The Bridge That Matters Most

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 2:5

I was blessed to grow up in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and I have walked across, run under, and driven over the Sydney Harbour Bridge dozens of times. I sometimes simply stare at her in awe, captivated by the engineering and beauty. When I look at photos of Sydney without the bridge, it seems somehow incomplete.

When the bridge opened, so did new opportunities for travel, commerce, employment, leisure, and more. People who once had little or no access to the city suddenly had a way in. That is what bridges do: they join things that were separated, providing a means of connecting and community.

That’s one reason I love the fact that Jesus Christ is often called the bridge between humanity and God. Jesus made a way where there was no way. In the ultimate act of grace, Jesus died on the cross as the sinless Lamb of God and perfect sacrifice, and He made it possible for us to be reconciled to our holy God.

Jesus has sent us into the world so everyone can learn about Him, the Bridge to our great and gracious God. He is a glorious route to a new, and eternal, life.

Please use me, Lord, to be a messenger of Your grace. Help me to be a bridge-builder too, as I direct people toward You.
