Strength For Today

Strength For Today

The LORD is the everlasting God. . . . He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Isaiah 40:28–29

I’m guessing that—like me—you weren’t awake very long this morning before you were mentally rehearsing the list of things you have to accomplish today. Just thinking about all our responsibilities, commitments, and obligations can exhaust us even before we’ve had breakfast. Thankfully, we also can start our day with the words from Isaiah: the Lord will give us strength! This truth is reiterated again a few verses later: “Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength” (v. 31 NKJV).

It looks to me as though we receive God’s strength as we “wait on” Him, if we commit our days to Him, trust Him for what’s ahead, and rely on Him every step of the way. In other words, if you are willing to be utterly dependent on God, He will enable you to do all He has called you to do.

May this truth put a smile on your face as it does on mine. As you begin a day of being a wife, mother, cook, chauffeur, personal shopper, or “whatever it takes” person, make an effort to take a break and consciously wait on God. He will renew your strength and make you “mount up with wings like eagles” (v. 31 NKJV).

Lord God, I’m so grateful that waiting on You will mean strength for today. Thank You for increasing my power!
