Live What You Believe
Live What You Believe
What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds?
James 2:14
Nineteenth-century philosopher John Stuart Mill reportedly said that Christians seem to have an amazing ability to say the most wonderful things without actually believing them. Ouch. What prompted that? I’m guessing it’s the wide gulf between how so many of us live and what we claim to believe.
We Christians make amazing claims about the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ to transform lives, communities, and nations. Imagine if you lived with such radical faith that this power was evident to all. Imagine . . .
• the conversations you would have that you don’t.
• the acts of kindness you would do that you skip.
• the places you would go that you avoid.
• the generosity you would give that you hold back.
• the forgiveness you would extend that you can’t muster.
• the prayers that you would pray that you put off till later.
• the people who would be reached who now aren’t.
Why not choose to live every moment today as if you truly believe what you profess to believe? Your faith, lived actively, would demonstrate these amazing things, because an amazing God would be acting through you.
Jesus, show me the gaps between what I say I believe and how I live—and help me close those gaps. I want to effectively show Your amazing gospel truth.
