Free To Run
Free To Run
Sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Romans 6:14
We’re running a race that takes stamina, faith, and joy. It’s the race of this Christian life. And it requires we run with the lightest load possible. If it were a literal race, we wouldn’t lug along, say, a bowling ball. And yet, holding on to sin does the same thing to us in our spiritual race. Jesus paid the price for sin and rose victorious, so we can run our race victoriously too.
Jesus made forgiveness from any sin possible—but whether we receive that gift is up to us. He already did the heavy lifting, by dying on the cross, so sins that keep us from fulfilling our God-given purpose could be removed easily. When we confess and then actively turn away from sinful behaviors and thought patterns, we are releasing our grip on that which hurts us.
Be honest with yourself as you deal with your sin and cast it aside. God always will forgive you, but—in His strength—you still need to confess and then drop the things that are holding you back from all the life He has prepared for you. As you shed what’s weighing you down, you will know what it’s like to run freely.
I praise You, Lord, for grace that forgives me, that empowers me to turn away from sin and run this race of life glorifying You in all I say and do.
