Following Wholeheartedly

“Because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.”

Numbers 14:24

When Nick and I got married, we committed 100 percent of our hearts to one another—we were wholehearted. If we had entered our marriage only halfheartedly, we would have set ourselves up for trouble. We knew that the only way to make our marriage work was to invest our whole hearts in it, and that has returned dividends of love over the years.

Your wholehearted commitment to God will fuel your passion for your faith, for the spiritual disciplines, and for every other aspect of your spiritual life. When you are completely sold out to Jesus, you won’t merely be fulfilling a Christian obligation. You will genuinely love others, the church, reading your Bible, praying, giving, and serving. You will love what God loves and desire to do what He wants you to do. You will be wholehearted.

That’s how Caleb was. He was one of the spies Moses sent to check out the promised land—and because he was wholehearted for the next forty years as they lived in the desert, he and Joshua were the only two from the original three million who entered the promised land. That’s the power of being wholehearted!

Lord Jesus, please bring me back to Yourself and show me how to live and follow You wholeheartedly, so I can know Your love.
