“FEAR NOT!”

“Do you love me?”

John 21:15

Jesus asked Peter this question three times—and three times Peter answered yes. Jesus was emphasizing that loving Him was what really mattered. When we’re afraid, He asks us the same question: Do you love Me?

When Jesus asks us, He is also saying, “Then turn your fear over to Me. Replace that fear—that I did not give you—with the love, power, and sound mind that I have given you [2 Timothy 1:7]. Know that My presence is the antidote to your fear. Hold fast to Me in faith.”

Jesus knew that in this world we would be afraid, and we would doubt. That’s why we read Fear not again and again in the Bible—365 times, one for each day of the year. God knows that sheer willpower will not enable us to conquer our fears, but His love—and His grace and a sound mind and courage—can and will. But know this: courage is not the absence of fear; it’s the will to persevere in the face of fear. As you make that choice—as you see the dangers—remember Fear not.

When Jesus asks, “Do you love Me?” say, “Yes.” And rest in that love. Let it move into every corner of your heart. As you do, fear will have to move out.
