Determining God’s Perfect Will

Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:2

In today’s scripture, Paul promises that we will be able to test and confirm the “good, pleasing and perfect will” of our God. If you’re like me, you’re saying, “I’ll take it! Of course I want to know the will of God! After all, isn’t doing His will the reason we are on this planet?”

Before Paul makes this promise, though, he directs us to live our lives for God and be transformed by the renewing of our minds (vv. 1–2). When your thoughts are fueled by God’s Word, they inevitably become governed by His truth. That is how you become internally transformed, healed, and guided.

If you were wondering how to live like a citizen of heaven while you are on this earth, that transformation is the key. It will have an immeasurable effect on your words, actions, and responses to what comes your way. You will find yourself looking at situations from a heavenly perspective and reacting accordingly. Even lovelier, you’ll find yourself looking at people with God’s gracious and compassionate eyes. It’s amazing what a godly, Spirit-guided response can do for a seemingly hopeless situation or relationship.

Let the wisdom in God’s Word transform your heart and mind, and you’ll find yourself growing closer to His loving will.
