Called And Compelled

You are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.

Psalm 31:3

That tightness in your heart. That urge in your soul. When you feel it, you know it: you are drawn, called, and compelled to act on your concern for someone. But how do you know if it’s really God calling you?

Personally, when I first was drawn to posters of missing women and children, I wasn’t sure about the sudden urge I felt to act on behalf of trafficked women. But as time went on, it became clear that God was interrupting me.

What does God keep bringing to your attention? Stop and recognize His leading. There’s no formula for confirming that such a leading is God’s voice you’re hearing. But if there is a need before you that you can easily do something about, then by all means do it! If the interruption is more significant—one that is potentially life-altering for you—then seek the counsel of your pastor, a spiritual leader, or a trusted friend.

Today, I’m so thankful God added an assignment to my life—a calling. And I believe He wants to do the same with you. All He asks is that you allow yourself to be interrupted—and then He will expand your capacity to accomplish His assignments.

Jesus, thank You for putting Your Spirit in me to lead me. I will keep my heart attuned to You, so I can recognize Your call.
