A Healthy Heart

A Healthy Heart

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Colossians 3:1–2

Your physical heart muscle pumps and regulates your blood flow. That blood carries oxygen and nutrients throughout your body. If you exercise that muscle with cardio workouts and feed it healthy nutrients, it grows stronger. But let it languish and feed it junk food, and you know what happens: the arteries get clogged, and the muscle grows weak.

The same is true of your spiritual heart. It is the seat of your passions and the essence of who you are. What happens if you let your spiritual heart languish and you feed it junk food, the “earthly things” that do not satisfy? It also gets clogged, grows weak, and sends toxicity pumping throughout your life. But it’s not too late to help an unhealthy heart.

Your loving God brings healing and freedom to all! He gives you good things to feed your spiritual heart—His Word, His guidance, love, prayer, practices, and wisdom. So “set your mind on things above,” and feel your heart beat stronger with His love.

Lord God, thank You for the healing work You have done in my heart, for making it soft toward You. Keep me focused on things above, so it stays healthy and strong.
