Day And Night

Day And Night

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Joshua 1:8, NIV

Imagine a chef who collected cookbooks, took cooking classes, studied recipes, and developed menus—but never cooked. Are you like that when it comes to spiritual food? It’s one thing to enjoy Bible study, attend Bible classes, and follow daily reading plans. But are you daily applying the Bible’s lessons to your attitudes and behavior?

Joshua 1:8 gives three steps to Bible study. First, keep listening to God’s Word. Keep reading it aloud. Don’t let it depart from your mouth or your mind.

Second, meditate on it. Mull it over in your imagination. Think about it when you drive to work and when you sit at home. Ponder it when you lie down and when you rise up.

Third, obey it—be careful to do everything in it. Then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. When we’re consistent in our daily devotions, it’s easier to be consistent in our daily duties.

I on Thy statutes meditate,

Though evil men deride;

Thy faithful Word is my delight,

My counselor and guide.
