A Prayer for Dirty Hands

We pray for the small, sticky hands

And the fingerprints they leave behind

With each intricate swirl.

May they know the care of their Creator,

And may we remember it too.

As we gather at the sink

To rinse tiny, soapy palms,

We thank You for fresh water.

Cleanse our hearts,

For we lament that some children in our midst

Lack clean water and helping hands.

Cleanse our hearts,

For we lament that we haven’t seen

These little ones as our own.

Unfurl our fists and open our hands,

Because You are living water

For all Your children.
