Show Up for Service

The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

2 Chronicles 16:9

When you give yourself to God’s plans instead of your own, in a sense you are “showing up for service.” When you do, be ready for the adventure to accelerate, because as this verse tells us, God is looking for those “whose hearts are fully committed to him” in order to strengthen and support them. “Showing up for service” is a daily response; it means connecting with God to receive your marching orders. Before the crush of e-mails and phone calls, laundry, errands, and other tasks sets in, you surrender anew to God with an attitude that says, “Here is my life, my hands, my emotions and will, my intellect—all that I am. Use me today in whatever way you want, no matter how small the task.” The specific words you use don’t matter as much as the act of turning to God in whatever way helps you to give yourself and your day to him. As you undertake this kind of “reckless abandon,” as Oswald Chambers termed it, you’ll begin to find the purpose or mission you were created for in this particular season of your life.

God’s Word says you are his masterpiece, created anew in Christ Jesus, so that you can do the good things he planned for you long ago, ahead of time, before you ever thought of them (see Ephesians 2:10). You may need some training or preparation to do those things. But whether it is painting pictures, planting a church in a foreign land, starting a ministry or business, teaching children, inventing something, singing, composing music, teaching and mentoring younger women, or any of the countless other “good things,” you can be assured that the Lord has gifted and equipped you to fulfill the purpose for which he created you. —CHERI

Lord, here I am, showing up for service. I give you my day and my life, for whatever you have planned for me. Thank you for creating me to have a purpose!
