How Did I Get Through That?
How Did I Get Through That?
Women Walking Across The Red Sea
Read: Exodus 14:15-31
Shannon collapsed into the recliner and reviewed the past week’s events. Monday morning had started off like any normal day—until she got the call about her mother’s stroke. In about an hour, Shannon had briefed a coworker about the big presentation, arranged after-school child care, packed, and started the three-hundred-mile drive to her hometown. The rest of the week had revolved around talking with doctors, visiting her mom at the hospital, and caring for her father, who was sick at home with pneumonia. How in the world did I get through that? she wondered.
The women in Exodus 14 must have wondered the same thing. When the Egyptians chased and trapped the Israelites, God sent a powerful wind to open a path through the Red Sea. The women must have nervously watched the walls of water and wondered if they would come crashing down on them. Perhaps some of them kept their eyes fixed ahead of them. After the two million people, along with their livestock, finished crossing, they surely looked back in wonder at what they had just done.
When God divided the sea for the Israelites, he demonstrated his power and protection for his people. He does the same today. We all experience difficult times, which often arise unexpectedly. God promises to give us the strength and wisdom we need when we turn to him in a crisis and ask for his help instead of trying to handle it in our own strength. Even when we feel trapped in a situation with no way out that we can see, God can make a way. Later, when we look back at what we’ve gone through, we’ll understand that it’s not a matter of how we made it, but of who walked us through it.
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.
Isaiah 43:2
