Seductive Women

Read: Proverbs 7:4-21

This passage in Proverbs describes a type of woman that men are warned to avoid. Although this woman pretended to be religious, her behavior betrayed loose morals. The woman dressed in such a way as to attract men’s attention. Her movements were sensual and her conversation seductive. She had no interest in domestic pursuits, preferring to be out on the town looking for a man to entice. Rather than developing godly qualities, this woman concentrated on making herself attractive to men. She thrived on their admiration and desire for her.

Janet Jackson’s famous “wardrobe malfunction,” when Justin Timberlake grabbed at her bodice and exposed her breast, shocked most of the people who watched the Super Bowl game in 2004. If our senses hadn’t grown so dull, we would be shocked every time we turn on the television or walk into a store. With women’s clothing getting shorter, lower, sheerer, and tighter, not much is left to the imagination. Even much of the clothing for little girls seems designed to look seductive. Many magazines and television shows promote everything from liposuction to breast enhancement by conveying the message that we must do whatever it takes to look sexy.

It’s sad that many Christian women are falling for the lie that we need to make ourselves look enticing to men. Whether we’re single or married, we need to be very careful in our relationships with men. When cultural influences seep into our thinking, our movements or words may be seductive without our even realizing it. God’s Word can help us guard our attitudes so that we dress and behave in a way that pleases God. There’s nothing wrong with being attractive, but God wants his daughters to dress modestly, not in clothing that arouses lust in men. When we dress to impress the opposite sex, we give the wrong impression of our Father.

I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety.
