Building A Home

Building a Home

The Wise Woman

Read: Proverbs 14:1

I walked through the house, in awe of what my friend had accomplished. When her two children entered middle school, she went back to school herself—for a degree in construction management. This house was the culmination of her program. Of course, some of the work was done by contractors, but my friend planned and supervised the project and did much of the work with her own hands. The result of her labor was a two-story home that was beautiful and exhibited quality construction.

At any stage of life, every woman is in the process of building a “home.” If we want to be like the wise woman in Proverbs, we’ll build our “homes” according to God’s blueprint. The foundation of our lives will be the gospel of Jesus Christ, the only foundation guaranteed to last for eternity. We’ll put up thick walls of prayer to surround our lives with protection. Studying God’s Word will provide a roof over our heads when the storms of life beat down on us. We need to furnish our “homes” with godly characteristics such as love, joy, self-control, peace, and patience.

Regular home inspections and spring cleanings are also important. Are the attics of our minds cluttered? Are our roofs leaking? Could our chimneys use cleaning so that we can safely let off steam from the pressures of life? Do we need to shake off the mat at the front door and welcome friends into our hearts more often? Constructing and maintaining our “homes” require a lot of hard work, but the effort will be worth it when time reveals that we’ve built lives that are beautiful in God’s eyes and exhibit quality construction.

A wise woman builds her home.
