The Possibilities Are Endless

Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” John 20:21

I visited ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut, when my book The Mentor Leader was released in 2010. The network was hosting me for what they called the “car wash”—appearing on a wide variety of shows in a short period of time. With so many hours of original programming to fill, it’s a great way for ESPN to get the most out of a guest, running the person from one show to another.

Producer Jason Romano took me around the set, from Mike & Mike in the Morning to SportsCenter to SportsNation and finally First Take. I had met Jason a couple of years earlier but hadn’t had time to get to know him. This time, we had a chance to talk about a lot of things, including matters of faith and about using the platforms God gives us.

Among other outlets, Jason is taking advantage of social media with several thousand followers on Twitter. Fans check his updates @JasonRomano to keep track of what’s happening at ESPN. And every morning, Jason posts a Bible verse. Those who don’t want to read it don’t have to, but Jason is letting them know what his priority is—front and center. The rest of the day, he’ll add news about the sports world. And the next morning, he does it all over again, including a new Scripture verse.

There are many areas that can be used to impact others for the Lord, whether through social media, other technology, or face-to-face interactions. Because God has made each person unique, you don’t have to do it someone else’s way—God has sent you into the world to impact others, wherever you are, in whatever way fits you best.

Uncommon Key > Think creatively as you look for ways you can impact the world for God. It may be using nontraditional platforms. Or sometimes not. But don’t stop exploring possibilities.
