Spreading The Bounty

Spreading the Bounty

When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required. Luke 12:48

Some of us have caught a lot of breaks in our lives. A number of people around the world might argue that any person born in the United States is already starting with a leg up on the rest of the world. But even within that group, there are those of us who are so far ahead of the game in terms of opportunities, positions, and other advantages that it’s not funny.

Maybe you worked tireless hours to get there. Maybe you saw a vision for what needed to be done when no one else did. Maybe someone gave you an opportunity, and things worked out. Perhaps some people gave you a lift up in life, and you made the most of it.

But here you are. And God wants more of you. He reminds us all that when someone has been given much, they have responsibilities. I think about that a lot when I enjoy the little blessings of life—like heat on a freezing winter day or a cold glass of milk, readily available from the gallon container in the refrigerator. I can’t help but think in those situations of people who, right that moment, are sleeping in a freezing house because they couldn’t afford to pay the electric bill or who don’t have anything in their refrigerator, let alone a bottle of milk. I have to overcome a slight feeling of guilt in that moment—guilt for the times when I have complained about the things I don’t have.

But I also feel a sense of responsibility to them. Shouldn’t I? Shouldn’t you? If we are to be the people of impact that we are called to be—much required, remember?—we must keep this before us.

Uncommon Key > Feeling blessed? Great—thank God. And then share what He has done for you with someone else.
