Running Full Speed to Him

Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3, NIV

Have you ever watched little children around a swimming pool? Whether they can swim or not, you need to watch them very carefully. So many of them have no fear whatsoever. Deep end or shallow end, it doesn’t matter. Fearless and not fully aware of the consequences, they jump, confident that everything will turn out okay because Mom and Dad or Grandma and Granddad are there. A simple—but not simpleminded—approach to life.

It’s the picture of the complete dependence Christ describes in today’s verse, a dependence necessary to enter His Kingdom, to be great in His Kingdom, to be His servants for all the world. A dependence marked with a simple—not simpleminded—approach to life. A dependence using the knowledge, gifts, and abilities—the wisdom—He has created within us to make decisions that honor Him, not us. And then announcing, “God, here I come!” knowing He will be there to make sure everything turns out okay.

You may not believe that God stands ready to catch you in His arms. You may not have had the benefits of being raised in the secure and loving setting that you are providing for your children or grandchildren. Maybe instead of loving, protecting, and defending you, your parents, grandparents, and other family members did the exact opposite.

Let me suggest that you find someone to share with, someone you can begin to trust with some of the difficult moments of your life. Someone who by their example gives you a glimpse of the loving nature of the God you can trust to always provide and who wants the very best for you. Start there to catch the view of the God who waits for you. Start there to develop that eternal relationship with the God you can trust to catch you when you fall or when you jump, yelling, “God, here I come!”

Uncommon Key > Spend time with children to see their simple approach to life. And then try to adopt that approach in your own life. If things seem too complicated, find someone you can confide in. And pray that God will give you the faith of a little child.
