Moving On

Moving On

I have called you back from the ends of the earth, saying, “You are my servant.” For I have chosen you and will not throw you away. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:9-10

Life isn’t trouble-free. Trouble often finds us, even if we’re trying to avoid it. And for anyone who is pushing the envelope and maximizing their full potential, there’s no guarantee that hardship won’t show up too.

But so will the Lord, He promises. Life is hard, but God is good.

I thought when I became the head football coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it would be forever, or at least as long as I wanted. My family would finally have some stability. Our children could stay in the same school for a while. We could develop a relationship with a local church, allowing us to grow in our faith and to minister to the community through that body of believers.

And beyond that, it was for more than just our good. After all, I was encouraging our players to get more involved in helping the community, and they were coming through. Our club was trying to stand for the right things as well as be a good example.

Of course, things didn’t quite work out that way. At the end of the 2001 season, I was fired. No, my time as head coach of the Bucs would not last forever, and it reminded me that at the end of whatever is the end for us, there is only one thing that is forever—a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Praise God that I have made that choice with Him.

What about you? Each day seems to bring something new to each of us—sometimes we welcome whatever comes with open arms, and sometimes we do our best to hold it back. All of it can be used by God for our good and His glory; how it affects us depends in large part on whether we believe that or not.

God will always have a hold on us—no matter what we face.

Uncommon Key > Clasp God’s hand today in faith, knowing that everything that comes your way is under His control. Nothing gets by Him.
