Wise Advice

Wise Advice

Your laws please me; they give me wise advice.

Psalm 119:24

Who doesn’t need wise advice at some point in life? I need it all the time. Bad advice is easy to come by in our world; the difficult part is recognizing when it’s faulty.

In order for believers in Christ to grow, it is essential that we go to the right place for wise advice. Because God embodies wisdom, His Word holds all the answers we need to live faithful lives that reflect Him in a world that often mocks Him.

I did not always understand the gold mine of practical wisdom found in the Bible. But when I began to dig into it daily, I prayed that God would teach me through His Word, and His Spirit revealed to my heart the things I needed to know and change in order to grow more like Him. And He still does. Luke 10:21 tells us that He shows us what we need to know in ways that are understandable to children, yet those same things remain hidden from adults who think they are wise on their own.

We can know we are moving in His direction, according to His laws, when we allow His words to be our counselors. We can also seek out people who follow His Word to direct us according to biblical truth, which is more true than our feelings or ideas.

His laws are a delight, and therefore we can experience that delight when we follow Him. I never feel good inside when I do the wrong things. As I mentioned previously, I used to tell Kali that good self-esteem comes from doing the right things that God says to do—simple obedience. Obedience is not a prerequisite to knowing God; rather, it is a thing I “want to do” after becoming a child of God through Christ Jesus.

Let’s continue to let Him speak to us through His Word. Choose a chapter in Proverbs to read and soak up the Lord’s wise advice through Solomon.
