Always Connected

Always Connected

I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

Before my beautiful, naturally curly-haired, redheaded mother (her hair reminded me of Lucille Ball’s) went to be with the Lord, she told me she got exasperated with long phone-recording prompts. One time she had tried several times to reach a real person to take care of essential business. After hearing “This call may be monitored for quality assurance,” she left her own message: “I sure hope so, because I have something to tell you!” I wish I could hear her say those words now so I could laugh out loud again in her actual presence.

Meditating on the verses from Romans 8 that are quoted above feels like God is pulling us close and saying, “I have something to tell you: Nothing can separate you from My love!” You and I can be encouraged, no matter who or what we are separated from, that absolutely nothing can separate us from God through Christ Jesus.

His quality assurance is so reliable that we never get a recording when we call on Him. We never have a dropped call with Him, and His signal strength is amazing—it’s everywhere! He promises His constant presence and immediate attention. He even knows before we do when and in what way we’ll need Him.

You know what else? Staying connected is even more important to Him than it is to us. He chose long ago to rescue us, and He’s not willing to ever give us up. Our connection with Him is as secure as He is—perfectly so.

Talk about great service. God can’t be beat!

You know that concern that’s been sounding a busy signal in your thoughts? Call on God and tell Him about it. There’s no need to leave a message; He’s available and He always answers, His way, His time. He got the message for sure, and oh, He has no need for caller ID, either—He already knew you’d be calling.
