What Diet Are You On?

What Diet Are You On?

I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches. I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.

Psalm 119:14-16

I used to wonder why Mama would ask my younger sister, Shawn, so many questions when we were growing up because she didn’t seem to ask me very many. I felt like I was put on a “no question diet,” and I did not like it! Years later, I finally asked Mama, and she told me that I always told her everything, while my sister needed prompting!

God made us all different, didn’t He? The Bible is where God tells us everything He wants us to know. He does not have us on a “no question diet.” He wants us to know about Him. He reveals His never-ending love, grace, justice, and mercy over and over in Psalm 119, the longest psalm in the Bible and one of my all-time favorites! In 176 verses, it lists the benefits of God’s Word. For starters, God’s Word

  • revives us (verse 25)
  • encourages us (verse 28)
  • expands our understanding (verse 32)
  • gives us an eagerness for His laws (verse 36)
  • reassures us of His promises (verse 38)
  • helps us abandon our shameful ways (verse 39)
  • renews our life with His goodness (verse 40).

God tells us what He is like, what we are like, and how much we need Him. His Word is a nourishing feast for our souls and healing balm to our hurts and vulnerabilities. Reading His Word increases our appetite for living His way. It is one diet that we can never overindulge on.

Let’s go ahead and eat up today. We never need to diet when it comes to God’s Word! It shows us what He is like, what we are like, and how much we need Him. Indulge in Psalm 119 today.
