This Is My Lord

I love you, LORD; you are my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.

Psalm 18:1-2

When we pass a particular church in our neighborhood, even though it is not where we attend, at least one member in our family usually says in a childlike voice, “This is my church!” We are imitating four-year-old Jack, one of the precious children Kali babysits. Every time the two of them were in the car headed to the park or another fun excursion and passed Jack’s church, he owned it!

This morning as I read the wonderful words in the first two verses of Psalm 18, I am reminded of just how personal our relationship is to our Lord. Read the verses out loud with me right now, emphasizing the word my every time it is used:

I love You, Lord:

My Strength, My Rock,

My Fortress, My Savior,

My God.

Because we are His, He is ours! We can pray about any need we have, any emotional turmoil we are experiencing in our hearts, because we have His ears and eyes and heart and Holy Spirit 24/7.

“Lord, I feel weak, emotionally and physically today, but You are my strength!”

“Lord, I feel like I am melting in a puddle—but You are my Rock, immovable and unchanging!”

“Lord, I feel attacked, but You are my Fortress—You surround me. Nothing can come in and out of my life unless it has gone past You.”

“Lord, I feel like life is a daily battle with circumstances only You can really see and understand. You know all that is happening, and I always win with You because You are my Savior!”

“You are my God!”

Take another minute alone today and read the list out loud to God. He hears.
