Little By Little

No, do not be afraid of those nations, for the LORD your God is among you, and he is a great and awesome God. The LORD your God will drive those nations out ahead of you little by little. You will not clear them away all at once, otherwise the wild animals would multiply too quickly for you.

Deuteronomy 7:21-22

God is so smart! He knows just how to lead us through this life, whether little by little, one moment at a time, or any way He deems best.

We wake up every morning to an all-knowing God who never needs sleep. He misses nothing. He knows all that happened yesterday, all that is going to take place in the next twenty-four hours (not to mention eternity), and all the repercussions of those events. He also knows everything about your future and mine! He maintains sovereignty over the big events and the little details, letting nothing slip through the cracks. I call this God’s providence in tall supply.

In these verses from Deuteronomy, we get a glimpse of God’s omniscience, His knowledge of everything. We also see His kind, wise commitment to lead His people each step of the way in His plan for them. We see God’s specific system for destruction of the idolatrous nations that worshiped idols instead of Him. He worked out His plan for His people little by little, in His way and time, with His omniscient wisdom.

We are God’s people in Christ. Everything He did for His people as recorded in the Bible, He can do for us. The ways He related to His people back then give us insight into how He relates to us now—with the added surety of Jesus’ gift of salvation to us.

Often it seems we are taking baby steps of faith as we yield ourselves to Him. He knows that if we had to deal with our sins all at once, it would be overwhelming for us. That’s why He provides His grace to us each and every day. We need it!

Be thankful today that God is willing to oversee our growth at a pace that works most effectively for us. This is a lifelong process. Let’s not meddle with His methods.
