The Power Of This Moment

Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.

Ephesians 5:16

When was the last time you had a professional photograph taken of yourself? Maybe your family gets them taken every fall for an upcoming Christmas card, or perhaps you’ve had a picture taken recently for work.

Professional photos are great because we have time to primp and prepare beforehand, the photographer shoots us in several poses, and sometimes we can even make clothing changes. When the photographic proofs arrive, we can choose the ones we think look the best. Heaven forbid if we have to start over!

As beautiful as a finished photograph may be, it doesn’t usually present a truly realistic view of everyday life. Life is messy and spontaneous, and we’re often thrown curveballs that make redos impossible. And sometimes we just don’t look our best on the inside or the outside.

When it comes to living for God and preparing for Jesus’ return, we need to make the most of each moment we have left on earth because no one knows the exact time and date when He will come back. We need to be ready as well as to help others be ready too. Although we don’t know the timing of that momentous event, we can live life from one candid snapshot to the next, showing Christ’s light developing in us. After we’re gone, those snapshot memories will serve as a legacy to others that will glorify Him.

I believe that each connection we make with another person provides an opportunity to display an image of Christ’s love to him or her. That’s how we live out today’s verse. The world is filled with images of sin and darkness, and what it really needs to see are images of Christ the Savior, Lord, King, Sustainer, Provider, Refuge, and Friend. Talk about the Power of a moment!

What characteristics of God will you show to a needy world today? Ask Him to help you leave His image everywhere you go and through everything you say in His strength and power, just as Colossians 3:17 says.
