The Clock Is Ticking

Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

Whenever I am in a shop, I gravitate toward unusual clocks and watches. Besides being time-conscience, I love the creativity of different timepieces. I’m fascinated by their colors and shapes and adornments, such as smiles, flowers, stones, and jewels.

I am sure I help our dwindling economy with all the watch batteries I buy! Instead of buying a souvenir when traveling, I usually purchase an inexpensive watch. My wardrobe is definitely not complete and I’m totally lost without a cute watch. A fun watch also becomes my bracelet.

In addition, our mantel is also decorated with a small collection of clocks as a visible reminder that time is so short on this earth! These earthly treasures remind me of wise thinking. Much like a clock’s internal mechanism regulates the time, God uses His Word to regulate me. When I spend time reading the Bible, God grows me in thinking more like Him. I long to be a wise woman who brings honor and glory to God.

We all want to grow in wisdom. Wisdom comes from God through His Word. In today’s verse, He reminds us to consider the shortness of life. Now that’s practical advice! The way we plan our time and schedule our days is very important to make the most of what God has given us. Does how we spend our time, our talents, and our resources reflect our priorities, the Lord, and others? Thinking about the brevity of life can help us live our priorities in our day-to-day moments. The clock is ticking—not only for others to come to know the Lord but for us to know Him better.

“We want to grow in wisdom, Lord, so teach us to realize the brevity of life, and not just realize it, but live in light of this truth!”

Let’s grow in our personal relationship with the Lord because we need wisdom for the brief time He has given to us on this earth. There’s no time like now to share His truth with others who need to know Him as Savior and Lord.
