Lasting Value Of God’s Word

It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

Isaiah 55:11

As much as I enjoy my clock collection, this year I realized during the weekends of “spring forward” and “fall back” how much clock clutter I have. When I go to reset all of them, it becomes clear that I may have overindulged.

There have been too many times in my life when I have purchased something I did not need because it was convenient, cute, or sparked my creative juices. If you could see my tray full of lipsticks, you would understand what I mean. Please do not misunderstand me. Having a lipstick or clock collection is not wrong. They are just things, and they are temporary. They have no lasting value. In fact, their reward is short-lived, and that’s probably why little things sometimes pile up and can become yet another distraction in life!

But God’s Word? Everything God says prospers. His Word produces sweet fruit. His Word has eternal value and always accomplishes everything He wants it to accomplish in our lives. We will grow in our faith as His Word takes root in our hearts. But we must clear the clutter from our hearts and free up time for His Word to do its work.

We may need to rearrange our schedules, our homes, our habits, and anything else that will help us allot time to hear God. Perhaps we can use an alarm on a clock to keep us accountable to maintain our first priority. If we are having difficulty understanding God’s Word, maybe it’s time to try a different Bible translation with wording that resonates more clearly with our own personal learning styles.

This year I switched to the New Living Translation. Geared for the average “man [or woman] on the street,” this is a translation that even a sixth grader can understand, and that’s the grade I used to teach, so I love it! No matter what translation connects with you most, we can all trust God to speak to us.

First and foremost, we need to give Him our time. When we do, we can experience firsthand the fruit He grows.
