Sweet Homework

God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors.

2 Corinthians 5:18-20

What a sweet homework assignment we have as ambassadors for Christ! But what exactly does that assignment involve?

As Christ’s ambassadors, we represent His name and Kingdom to the world. He chose us and appointed us to speak on His behalf to spread His message of salvation, love, and peace. When you and I joined the family of God by faith in Christ, He gave us full access to Himself, including 24/7 clearance to convene with Him. He is always in session to provide insight and wisdom for how best to accomplish His work.

He showers us with such gifts and privileges, too; it’s as if we’re both royalty and workers in His country, which is exactly what we are! We don’t go around expecting to be introduced with trumpets and great pomp. Any position requires constant sweet homework behind the scenes before He places any of His children on the front lines.

He clearly tells us that our commitment involves sharing His wonderful message of reconciliation, which is the gospel, the Good News. We can be used by Him in a myriad of ways to take His Good News to others so that they can be reconciled to Him too. We all have the same task as ambassadors of Christ, but our roles will be as individual as each one of us! Some may sit at someone’s bedside; others may write an e-mail. Some may travel great distances, and others may work from home. Still more will rescue the wounded and protect those in danger. All God’s children are his ambassadors, offering God’s truth and grace.

Most of all, as God’s ambassadors we need to make sure we’re conducting ourselves in a manner that honors Him as we extend the level of care He asks of us to those we serve. Only through our personal relationship with God in Christ will we be effective as His ambassadors.

Let’s join forces and take our ambassadorship seriously by abiding in Christ and then carrying out our assignment faithfully.
