Songs Of Confidence

My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises! Wake up, my heart! Wake up, O lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song.

Psalm 57:7-8

Psalm means “song,” and even though we may have no idea of the original tune of Psalm 57 and may not have greeted the dawn with a song today, we can sing along with David about our confidence in Christ.

Why is it possible to have so much confidence in God? Well, not only has He delivered us from our enemies of sin, death, and the devil because of the victory Christ won on the cross, but we have a loving refuge in Him in the midst of upsetting circumstances. We have a Defender and a Conqueror who has unlimited capabilities to fight on our behalf. He wants us to be as confident in Him as He is in Himself.

In the introductory note for this psalm to the choir director, it says, “A psalm of David, regarding the time he fled from Saul and went into the cave. To be sung to the tune ‘Do Not Destroy!’” David was fleeing for his life, finally admitting to God how weary he was from his distress (verse 6). If David, the man after God’s own heart, became weary from distress, we can go to God to renew our confident faith too.

Going to God and taking hold of His peace is such a privilege. We must choose to put our confidence in Christ because He sees the before and after and ever after of every event in our lives.

“Lord, You loved David in his distress and You love me in mine! You know I’m upset about __________________ (fill in the blank), but I trust You, Lord. I feel weary. I am tired of hiding, running, and complaining. I have You as my confidence builder. I open my heart to You right now.”

Shout out with me whatever distress you are facing today. Then combat that circumstance with Christ’s sure confidence, which is rightfully ours if we belong to Him! Read Ephesians 3:12 to see what that confidence compels us to do.
