Pajama Morning Day

You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.

Matthew 24:44

I’ve come up with a new celebration day. We already have Administrative Professionals’ Day and Boss Appreciation Day. I think there is actually a Friendship Day too. Well, I have officially added my own Pajama Morning Day.

The rest of my family likes to sleep in, but not me. I love the early morning when it feels like only God and I are up. To be honest, I complete more tasks in my pajamas than in any other clothes. (Let me clarify one thing: I’m not one of those people who will go out in public in my pajamas. I would be embarrassed to do that. But I think I may have run my daughter a mile to school on a busy morning in my robe, ducking down if I thought someone would see me.)

Inevitably, though, it seems that when I am comfortably attired, the doorbell will ring and I’ll have to scramble to make myself presentable for the person at the front door. Of course, what I really want to do is stay in my pajamas and defend myself, making sure that the person at the door knows how early I got up and how much I accomplished in my pajamas.

In today’s verse from Matthew, Jesus reminds us how important it is for us to be ready for His arrival. A surprise visitor at the front door is nothing compared to Jesus’ unexpected return. He is coming at a time only He knows. Are we ready to meet Him? We’re ready only if our hearts have been given to Him.

How grateful I am that if we have believed and received Jesus Christ, we are prepared, dressed in the clean clothes He provides us. We will never be caught unexpectedly.

Think of what you need to do to prepare for Jesus’ return. Let’s make it a daily prayer to ask God to focus our hearts and minds on Him.
