No Returns Allowed On This Relationship

I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.

1 John 5:13

Sometimes in our Christian life, doubts set in, and we may feel that our faith isn’t quite good enough. We may even think God wants to cancel His commitment to us because we have failed Him in a certain way or doubted or worried. Well, thank the Lord that we can relax about this one thing: faith in Christ is a done deal. There is no return policy, only opportunities for growth.

God wants each of us to trust Him to hold our lives and eternities securely. In His great love, grace, mercy, and kindness, He knows we will struggle and wonder if He is going to return us to the way we were, dead in our sin. Well, hallelujah, He will not!

In Christ, we are His and He is ours. The eternal deal He made for us lasts forever, which means that His presence and help are available to us every second.

Imagine living each moment trusting fully that He personally lavishes His grace and strength on you. He is a hands-on God, and He extends His grace to us when we sin and even when we fail to trust Him. He blesses faith that’s as miniscule as a mustard seed (Luke 17:6), and He gives us more opportunities to grow in faith. He believes that we can learn to trust Him more, and instead of physically clobbering us over the head, He grows us.

He indwells us the moment we receive Him, and He wants us to live with the assurance that the exchange is complete and we have eternal life as well as His help during this earthly life.

How wonderful to celebrate every day knowing that God will not take back our relationship with Him.

Think about this truth of assurance the next time you are returning something at the store. Once you’re God’s, you’re God’s for good!
