Help In A Hurry

Help in a Hurry

Please, God, rescue me! Come quickly, LORD, and help me. . . . I am poor and needy; please hurry to my aid, O God. You are my helper and my savior; O LORD, do not delay.

Psalm 70:1, 5

Don’t you just love those words from Psalm 70? I call it the “help in a hurry” psalm because in five short verses, David asks for help in a hurry three times!

I do not think I will ever forget when these words came alive to me. The Lord gave me a huge opportunity for a Sweet Monday Giant Purse Swap outreach. God provided the leader for the event on the front end, which was a blessing right off the bat, since the idea of planning a big event makes me want to faint. I do not have the spiritual gift of administration. And logistics? What are those?

However, a planning crisis hit when our sweet volunteer leader had to step down right before the event because of an emergency at home. She made the right decision, but we needed help in a hurry—and a week later God provided His huge help through Sweet Joyce. (Thank you forever, Sweet Joyceee!)

That was one of the most difficult waiting weeks I can remember. Over and over again I had to hand my concern over to God and trust that He would come through for the effectiveness of His outreach. God always provides for what He wants to accomplish. Even though the event is long past, I will never forget God’s goodness to us in His great provision. He brought two thousand women to hear the Good News and see Sweet Katie Couric’s donated purse being swapped! Fun! Fun!

We all benefit from reflecting on God’s help to us, big or small, in our past, present, and future. Let’s always call on Him first to rescue us! He’s our Helper, whether we are in a hurry or not!
