No Mold On Mercy

No Mold on Mercy

Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

Lamentations 3:21-23

We have a bread drawer in our kitchen, a deep drawer lined with stainless steel. The drawer was there when we moved into the house, and I had no idea what it was until I asked someone.

At times, I actually forget that I store bread in there because it is hidden away in the cabinet drawer. When I finally remember it’s there, I always hurry to pull it out before Mark finds the mold on it! Unfortunately, this week I wasn’t fast enough, and he found it first. I told him that it was a good thing—we didn’t need to eat all those carbohydrates anyway!

You and I do not order stale, moldy bread at our favorite sandwich shop, and we do not eat rotten meat. We like our food fresh, and for good reason. Food past its prime is distasteful and can even make us sick.

As much as I enjoy fresh food, I am perpetually grateful for fresh mercy every day! How grateful I am to our faithful, loving God that I do not have to try to store up mercy, hide it in the bread drawer, and hope it doesn’t grow moldy! Every day our faithful God offers a fresh supply of mercy, along with love and every good thing you and I could ever need for sustenance.

Fresh mercy is one of the most encouraging benefits of belonging to Jesus Christ. We don’t have to hoard it. It arrives in abundance, ready to reenergize and restore us.

Praise God that mercy never gets moldy! We wake up to fresh mercy each day. Let’s remember Lamentations 3:21-23 as we go to sleep tonight and again tomorrow when we wake up to fresh mercy, just as He promises!
