Itty Bitty Book Light

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

When traveling and at bedtime, I’m lost without my Itty Bitty Book Light. Now that I’m aging gracefully (Lord willing) and my eyes are weakening, it has become even more of an essential item at my bedside. On those nights when I wake up and can’t go back to sleep, I can turn on my small light and read, trying not to disturb Mark beside me.

After all these years, I still marvel at how that tiny light illuminates the whole page. But it doesn’t come close to how much God’s Word fascinates me. I am so grateful that God’s Word doesn’t need batteries and that I can carry it in my heart, no matter where I go. It illumines my heart and my path, and it never gets old.

The Bible is where I hear God’s voice. It isn’t audible, but that still, quiet voice booms from the Bible’s pages right into my heart. I look forward to hearing Him in my daily reading. I don’t want to miss anything the God of the entire universe has to say to me!

I also see myself in His Word—what I am really like and my need for Christ; how much Jesus Christ has done for me and how very personal He is. That personal aspect of Jesus is revealed in the Gospels as we see Him interact with people like us. He tells us how to live for Him.

I am thankful that His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path. When we follow Him, He illumines our way.
