God’s Power For God’s Girls
God’s Power for God’s Girls
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
2 Peter 1:3
It seems as though I am always encountering the slogan “Girl Power” written on some fun knickknack wherever I go. With my years of ministering to women, I certainly believe in unified girl power, but even more so I believe in God’s power. As a former schoolteacher, I want to cross out and change “girl power” to “God’s power” on every item I see.
God is clear that in His divine power He has given us everything we need for a godly life. We spin our wheels and go nowhere by thinking we can be godly apart from Him. We cannot grow in anything good without coming to know Him in Christ. When I push through a too long to-do list in an unrealistic amount of time, overcommit to opportunities (wonderful though they may be), and become overly bossy with my family as a result, I get spiritually depleted! I am depending on my own puny girl-power strength instead of allowing God’s power to flow through me.
Whenever we feel like we’re running out of His strength, we should express our need through prayer for the Holy Spirit to take over. In addition to the gift of His Spirit, God has given us each other in His big family! With God’s power at work in each of us who have received Christ, we are a stronger and sweeter force that can be more effective for Him as we make an eternal difference in our hurting world.
Next time you see the words girl power, thank God for His never-ending supply of God power!
