Clothed In Christ
Clothed in Christ
I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels.
Isaiah 61:10
Now that my daughter is in college, I do not have instant access to her excellent fashion advice. She is much better at clothes than I am. She can choose an item off the rack and know if it will look good without even trying it on! Me? I am the chronic returner! I can’t count the times I’ve brought home an item of clothing I’m excited about, only to sigh with disappointment when I stand in front of my bedroom mirror and see that it doesn’t work on me. Back to the store it goes.
Aren’t you glad that God will never return us to the store? He bought us with Christ’s shed blood on the cross, and we are priceless! Knowing my value to Him overwhelms me with joy!
God sees you and me in the most gorgeous clothes imaginable, like a bridal gown complete with jewels—the clothing of salvation and the robe of righteousness. This lovely apparel symbolizes that we have right standing with God. As members of His royal family, we have an up-close and personal relationship with our Father and full access to Him. And we are clothed beautifully as the bride of the King of kings, who cherishes us.
These elaborate word pictures of our spiritual clothing paint a visual picture of being covered in Christ for all eternity, fitted to be welcomed by the Lord of the universe and the lover of our souls.
By dwelling on our royal lineage, we can experience overwhelming joy in the Lord, as Isaiah did when he pointed us to Christ in this magnificent Old Testament book. Imagine the joy in our countenance if we keep in mind 24/7 that we are dressed fit for our King, our heavenly Bridegroom. He loves to adorn our souls with His joy! Only then are we truly beautiful.
Let’s wear a favorite earthly outfit today and be grateful to be spiritually clothed in Christ!
